EAST WEST MURAL FEST

Returning 08.2024

Events like this shine a light on local art, public creativity and bring the community together. The festival gives people a positive perspective on [murals], graffiti art and culture.
— Survey Response

Since 2021, ECAH has been working with community members, wall owners, local businesses and artists in the Township of Esquimalt and neighbourhood of
Vic West to create vibrant public art that celebrates local culture.

The festival incorporates hands-on workshops, mural training bootcamps, and a final massive celebration at
Canada’s largest official graffiti jam along the Trackside Art Gallery.

Check out our community artworks over the years, the artists we have worked with, where to find all our murals and updates on upcoming opportunities.

Meet Our Past Muralists!

  • Lydia Beauregard

Lydia is a freelance visual artist and muralist. She believes art to be a constant tool for personal evolution, and in turn hopes to evoke feelings of love, hope and freedom in her audience. She makes an effort to balance imagination and reality by drawing vague representations of her subjects, and using juxtaposition to express and convey a range of emotions.

  • Lukas Lundberg

I am a Swedish visual artist residing in Vancouver, working as a painter and within the visual effects industry. My paintings are often vibrant coloured motive of portraits or wildlife with abstract elements. I paint both murals and canvas with the use of brushwork and spray paint.

  • Kay Gallivan

I am a multidisciplinary artist from Lekwungen Territory. I am well versed in creating original artwork, commissions, murals, set design, workshops, multimedia installations, and sign painting. I also enjoy curating and teaching. I like local biodiversity, social practice, collaboration, myths and archtypes, textile patterns, and bright, emotional colour schemes. Some of my favourite colour palettes come from the sky and some of my favourite sounds and textures come from the water.

  • Expel

Recognized within the urban art community as a master of his craft, Expel creates illustrative designs loaded with colour and movement. His characters are easily recognizable for their fun, playful and over-the-top features.

Expel has worked for private and corporate clients such as Wildplay Element Parks and the former Cambie Bar in Victoria.

  • Alex Taylor-McCallum

Alex is a Kwakwaka'wakw and Nuu-Cha-Nulth artist, muralist, decolonial chef, pin-maker, writer, drummer, singer, film-maker, storyteller and father.

  • Dave

Dave is an urban artist with over 20+ years of experience working across Canada and throughout Europe. His unique style is internationally recognized.

Known for his dynamic lettering style, bold use of colour and sense of movement, Dave is interested in graphic design, sign-making, portraiture and art in public places.

  • Claire Crawford

Claire is an artist and illustrator. She works with watercolour, gouache, pen and ink and much of her work aims to depict the deep interconnectivity of humans and animals as beautiful, destructive, hopeful, and helpless.

While Claire’s work is often described as whimsical, keep an eye out for the often macabre undertones used in order to bring these faces of conflict and connection to life. Claire uses her artistic voice to speak up about environmental justice both around the world and in her own backyard on the Pacific Coast.

  • Jesse Campbell

Jesse is of Métis, Cree, Ojibway, Saulteaux, Scottish, and English ancestry currently living on the traditional Lekwungen Territory. He has been a practising mural painter since 2010 and has helped produce many public art pieces throughout Greater Victoria.

In addition to his mural practice, Jesse spends time mentoring youth on the craft of mural painting and understanding the diverse forms of Indigenous art across North America.
